The Festival of Lights is here! | BSR Travels

The festival of lights is here! A celebration that bonds family with sheer joy, happiness and a whole lot of sweets. Diwali is a pan Indian festival and truly, there is no other festival that receives as much love as Diwali. This vibrant festival celebrates the victory of Lord Krishna over the demon Narakasura which stands as a symbol of victory of good over evil.

Diwali is an enchanting festival that combines auspiciousness and extravagant celebration. Travelling on the days of Diwali is more fun compared to travelling on other days. Every home is decorated with lighted diyas. Every temple holds special poojas. And everywhere sweets and gifts are distributed! If you want to experience the Indian culture in its full bloom, you must travel during Diwali.

North or South, east or west, you are in for a treat. Some of the best places to travel in south India during Diwali are Mysore, Kovalam and Goa.

1.      Mysore – The whole city is illuminated with diyas and artificial lights. The Mysore Palace, the Brindavan gardens and Somnathpuram Temple is flamboyantly decorated with lights; it is a treat for the eyes and photographers.

2.      Kovalam - Hundreds of people gather at the Kovalam beach in Kerala to light the diyas on the shore. The entire shore gets lit up at night. Moreover, people burst firecrackers and fly rockets that illuminated the sky as well! The entire night at Kovalam beach is just breathtaking.

3.      Goa - Every year in Goa, they conduct a competition to see who can make the biggest and scariest effigy of the demon Narakasura which is then burnt to symbolise the victory of good over evil. Watching the demon burning is a highly satisfying experience.
